How I got State ID

My Experience in getting a State ID  

Step 1


Required documents :




1)   Original Passport with Visa
2)   I-94
3)   Two Proofs of your  address
         a)Copy/original of  lease agreement
         b)Copy of any document which came to your address  ,like Bank statement ,Utility bills etc
4)   Social Security Card (I will discuss how to get an SSN Later. Because I have taken this 2 yrs back which I came to US at the first time)




Step 2
Official procedure :


We need to go to any of the DMV( Department of Motor Vehicles) office for State ID. Take a token from the office and wait for your turn. The officer will give you the guidance along with a form which needs to be filled w.r.t  your details.






Step 3




Fee payment :


Payment for the $29.50 fee. Driver License Centers do not take cash or credit cards only checks or money orders made payable to "PennDOT"( I have done it in PA) .I have seen an another office which is in the same building something like an agency ,who make the Money Order for you.(for the  Extra charge of $2 )








Step 4



Document submission:


I have submitted the Form and the relevant documents along with the MO to the same officer again and he verified and took a copy of all the documents  by himself. He have entered all the relevant details to their database and returned all the documents which I have shared after that.
        
              Later he gave  me a token and asked me to move to another counter where they have Camera connected  .Here the  officer asked me to verify all the information which are entered by the first officer . If you have any correction, you need to go the previous officer to get it corrected ( I have done it 3 times :) )




Step 5



Name in the state ID will be truncated if it exceeds the number of alphabets in your First or last name
But you will be given a chance to choose according to your convenience. Both My first and last name got  truncated and I have got a Nice name now :)




Step 6



They have provided a temporary state ID for me and the original will be sent by post in 15 days. They also gave me a slip which states that the temporary ID will be considered as same as original ID till the expiry date


I am waiting for the permanent State ID .......:)
